In the wake of COVID19 concerns we have taken every consideration into account to create a safe environment for students and clients.  Our forest studio is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after every client to ensure that a fresh experience awaits the next person to step into our sacred space.  We ask that people wear face coverings and maintain appropriate distancing, and apply sensitivity for individual needs and discernment for the safety of all. When instructing classes we supply hand sanitizers – both organic and non-organic options – and ask that instructors and students use these and other precautions when treating each other. For any questions about these practices, please contact Ellen at [email protected] or through phone or text at (503) 931-2385.

First Degree Reiki

First Degree Reiki is a practical art that offers tools to help make life more peaceful and joyful.  This class rekindles wisdom that is already in each one of us.  Students receive instruction in the history of Reiki in customary oral tradition, a discussion of the philosophy and principles of Reiki, the sequence of hand positions in a complete self –treatment and treatments on other people.  Focused attention is given to guided practice in the giving and receiving of complete one-hour treatments, allowing students to confidently practice on themselves and others right away.  Students participate in a series of four initiation ceremonies during the class which allow Reiki energy to move more fluently through the hands. (Students with previous First Degree training may audit the course with instructor approval for a cost of $95.)

Ten CEUs are included.

Second Degree Reiki

After a First Degree practitioner has given treatments to themselves and others and experienced Reiki in their lives, a desire may develop to learn more and go further with the practice.  Second Degree training involves deepening the practice of this gentle, effective hands-on healing art, offering additional tools for those who are drawn to an expanded experience.  Students learn to send Reiki at a distance, assess energy during the process of a treatment, and explore and experience a new level of depth in the practice.  One initiation ceremony is given in Second Degree.  (Students with previous Second Degree training may audit the course with instructor approval for a cost of $175.)

The Nature of Reiki; Exploring our Subtle Energy and Relationship to “All that Is”

Lineage Bearer Phyllis Furumoto often spoke about the ‘absolute’ and ‘relative’ worlds that exist in our experience of life.  I’d like to offer a few words about these concepts:

The relative world

is that which we experience every day after waking, and before we fall into sleep. In this world, humans in every culture have created a way of relating to each other through the use of agreed-upon norms and values that allow us to get along in relative harmony.  We might call this ‘consensus’ reality. This world is the binary system of ‘if this, then that’ where everything is ‘relative’ to something else.

The absolute world

is that of non-ordinary or ‘non-consensus’ reality. In this world there is nothing to judge or compare anything else to – experiences are ‘just so’.  Every person and experience is full of their own potential – or series of potentials – to grow and mature into exactly what they are called to be by their own true nature.  You might say that individual potentials navigate and follow their own ‘North Star’ in this world.

In this upcoming weekend together we will explore these two worlds, our experience of each, and the place where we stand poised and balanced ‘on the bridge’ between them.  We will identify, explore and experience energy clues and invitations, see how the natural world embraces these experiences, and we will share Reiki, laughter, stories, food and possibilities.

37th Annual Northwest Reiki Gathering

August 13, 14 and 15, 2021

For 35 years this Gathering was held at Breitenbush Hot Springs in Detroit, Oregon.  The 36th Gathering in 2020 was held online due to the affects of the COVID19 outbreak.  Not long after reopening, Breitenbush Hot Springs evacuated their guests due to the safety risk created by the the Beachie Creek and Lionshead forest fires. Heroic firefighters risked their lives to save as much of the Breitenbush retreat center as they could in the wake of the devastating flames. Gratefully they were successful in keeping the flames from consuming the main lodge and nearby buildings. The retreat lodging and buildings located in the surrounding forest were taken by the fire.  We urge all those willing and interested to contribute to the restoration of the retreat center by clicking on the following link: .

For more information on the location of the Gathering in 2021, please check the NW Reiki Gathering website at
